David Baume has called educational developers ‘principled, pragmatic opportunists’. Never more the case than now - the HE world is changing dramatically, as a result of external funding and policy initiatives, and repercussions inside our institutions. Research in ed dev has also taken different turns over the last few years. Educational development is not going to be the same in 5 years’ time. In fact, it isn’t the same now as it was 5 years ago. In this discussion-based session we will look at where we’re coming from with educational development – from the heady days post-Dearing when PG Certs were the main focus of work for many units – where we’re at now, and where we’re going next. What are the practices, values, external and internal drivers and thinking that we need to plan for?
