Teachers are part of the working class, whether they like it or not, and (apart from private schools) so are most of the families of the children they teach. I want to argue in this chapter that education for the majority is at risk unless teachers embrace this, and that our common social future depends on understanding it well. It is a matter of common interest and solidarity.
