V epidemiology in brief Uzbekistan has a concentrated HIV epidemic, with 30,315 people living with HIV (PLHIV) officially registered (95% of the estimated number), and 10,948 of them receiving antiretroviral therapy (coverage 34%-79.8% depending on how it was calculated) in 2014. Next to sexual transmission, injecting drug use is the most common mode of HIV transmission. HIV prevalence among people who inject drugs (PWID) has been declining to 7.3%.
