This project will be looking into the development and evolution of the Japanese Kimono from 1900 to the present day. It will explore the construction techniques that developed over the years, the designs that were influenced by the growing culture, how history affected the change in Fashion and how the Kimono has grown to become a national symbol in Japan and is still popular today. This research will allow me to develop my own ideas for Kimono designs. I will practice sketching different surface patterns, textures and shapes inspired by what I have found out and from this, I will finalise these into a series of Costume Plates that will reflect what I have learnt and what I believe will be future popular choices of Kimono.
