Korecka, A. (2014) Excessive bodies: an examination of weight-related Reality TV programming, no. 85.
Popular culture is an instrument of somatic society highlighting the importance of the body in the West. Reality Television in particular routinely scrutinizes and literally dissects individual corporealities. This thesis explores the role of body size on television through defining and analysing the Weight Programme. The study examines its adherence to dominant neoliberal discourses through outlining its stylistic and narrative characteristics.
