Introduction (part): The principal research question of this dissertation is: How is online viewing affecting TVwatching as a social experience? Television as a medium has a relatively short history compared to other entertainment industries such as radio or film. Yet, it has greatly impacted society since its popularization in the 1950's. During its comparatively recent history, the medium and industry have been one of the most rapidly changing mediums, evolving with every new technological advancement.
