Introduction (part): Communication has been defined as the conveying or exchanging of information and ideas. The Language of communication may be the written word or the moving picture, the static icon or the living gesture. (Tagg 1988-preface). Communication might be the single most important aspect in defining what it is to be human. Indeed, Simonson et al (2013) sees communication and its history as a highly influential and fundamental aspect of how human life has developed from the dawn of mankind to the modern digital age. With the power of communication put into context, there is a current ongoing issue concerning our ever growing population paired with increasing fears of diminishing planetary resources. In addition to this, our current food system is already failing to feed an estimated 795 million people in the world (State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO, 2015). It is therefore the aim of this project to create an influential and provocative image illustrating aspects of the current food waste cycle using a photomontage format. This medium of photography/photomontage has been chosen as it is acknowledged as being an extremely persuasive and influential tool employed all over the world in a variety of ways.
