Abstract

This dissertation examines the different ways that novels from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series have been adapted for stage performances and as movies. As of Pratchett's recent passing, the continued life of the Discworld franchise rests solely in the future stage and screen adaptations to be created through Pratchett's own production company, Narrativia, which holds sole adaptive rights to the franchise. Previous adaptations have experienced widely varying levels of critical and popular success, and this is due to the different priorities that they were created with. This study aims to use these successes and failures to determine which aspects of a Discworld novel are most crucial when creating an adaptation.
