A practical exploration of how the structure of Kill Johnny Glendenning by Daniel C. Jackson can effectively support the play.

Abstract

This research project looks at the structure of Daniel C. Jackson's Kill Johnny Glendenning (KJG). The study draws upon mostly primary sources including the play itself, a performance of Kill Johnny Glendenning, emails between myself and Daniel C. Jackson, and a collection of further academic research: journals, articles, 'YouTube' videos, books, and web pages. This is a practical exploration of Jackson's Kill Johnny Glendenning, determining whether the structure supports the plot of the play. An examination of the structure will assist the analysis of how the configurative framework aids the story, justifying how the reversed framework is engaging for the audience. This dissertation will investigate the structure used in Jackson's play, carrying out a practical exploration by writing a play which lifts Jackson's framework and applying it to my own: A Funeral and A Felony (AFAF).
