Factors motivating employee: case study of four and five star hotels in Edinburgh.

Abstract

This study is focused on finding the important factors of extrinsic an intrinsic motivation affecting motivation in four and five-star hotel of Edinburgh. The study of employee motivation has been a focus of many researchers and scholars for years.. From organisational perspective motivation is important as the central aspect for all organisation to motivate their employee is to empower high performing employees to stay with the organisation. However, on the other hand trough a higher degree of motivation provided at workplace employees can develop their overall skills in their specific job and be more engaged at higher level. Although there are many theories this study focuses on two theoretical models i.e. Maslow (1949) Hierarchy of Need and Herzberg's' (1959) Two factor theory of motivation In this study factors pertaining to employee motivation are based on these theory and will be merge with data gathered from quantitative strategies to get better understanding on important factor of motivation. The quantitative data relies upon survey. This study builds on fundamental of Herzberg's Two factor theory of motivation (Herzberg 1959). The findings of this study can help the organisation to Design an objective way of measuring employee performance after the implication of motivational factors.
