Item Vowel Assessment for Systems of English (VASE)(1999) Bates, Sally; Hewlett, Nigel; Kaighin, Sally; Sinclair, Alison; Sweet, Jane; Watson, JocelynneVASE is a single word picture naming task which has been especially designed to assess vowel production in children presenting with developmental phonological disorder. The full assessment comprises 53 line drawings plus a set of transcription sheets, realisation score sheets and vowel system profiles. The transcription, scoring and vowel system profile sheets are all photocopiable. The screening assessment consists of 10 line drawings (selected from those used in the full assessment) plus transcription and score sheets. The full assessment may be administered in its entirety, recommended in complex cases presenting with moderate-severe consonant and/or vowel difficulty, or selectively depending on the results of the screener. For example, if a child shows errored realisation on one or two vowels only, it is not necessary to further assess the full range of vowels across all contexts. Rather the clinician may select those pictures which will generate additional tokens of the problem vowels highlighted by the screener.Item Prosody in Autism 2002 to 2004(2004) Peppe, SueChildren with high-functioning autism are widely reported to show deficits in both prosodic and pragmatic ability. New procedures for assessing both of these are now available and have been used in a study of 31 children with high-functioning autism and 72 controls. This is the data from a case study carried out in 2002 to 2004Item Bhopal Survivors Movement Study - transcriptions and translations(2008) Scandrett, EurigThese data comprise anonymised Hindi transcriptions and English translations of interviews conducted as part of the Bhopal Survivors Movement Study, which started in December 2007 (mostly between December 2007 and September 2008). These data are for public access and all participants have given their consent for these data to be publicly accessible under the condition of anonymity. Most transcriptions and translations have received a minimal edit in order to remove any information which would identify the interviewee, although there are some interviewees who have given permission for their names to be used.Item ECB08 (original)(2008) Scobbie, James M.; Lawson, EleanorEastern Central Belt ultrasound tongue imaging corpus. Created in 2008. 15 informants 8 females 7 males Edinburgh and LivingstonItem Bhopal Survivors’ Movement Study - video and audio(2010) Scandrett, Eurig; Mukherjee, Suroopa; Shah, Dharmesh; Sen, TarunimaVideo and audio recordings of these data are generally not available for public viewing/listening. Separate permission must be obtained from the interviewee for access to these video and audio data and any enquiries should be made via the Principal Investigator (Eurig Scandrett) or Queen Margaret University archive administrator: eResearch@qmu.ac.uk. The purpose of the collection of data is to record the accounts of the survivor-activists and others involved in the Bhopal survivors’ movement, and these have been represented verbatim wherever possible. The research team is not responsible for the accuracy of any statements made and are aware that there are inconsistencies regarding factual details. No attempt has been made to correct these or provide consistency across the interview data set.Item High speed ultrasound/acoustic database of lingual articulation in preadolescents and adults(2012) Zharkova, NataliaThe database was collected within an ESRC-funded research project (RES-000-22-4075), Principal Investigator Dr Natalia Zharkova. The data consist of ultrasound video recordings of tongue movement (at 100 Hz), synchronised with the audio signal. There are 15 adult and 15 preadolescent speakers. The data are stored in two formats: 1) AVI video (e.g. "Adult1.7z"); 2) internal format used by the Articulate Assistant Advanced software (e.g. "Adult1_AAA.7z"). The database also includes text files exported from the Articulate Assistant Advanced software, with x-y coordinates representing the curves fitted to every tongue shape throughout each repetition of the consonants /s/ and /sh/ in two different vowel contexts (2 consonants x 2 vowel contexts x 30 speakers). The data have been archived using 7-zip software (freely available, http://www.7-zip.org/).Item Typical adult speakers' tongue shapes for several consonants in contrasting vowel environments(2013) Zharkova, NataliaThe dataset contains text files with x-y coordinate values of tongue curves for seven different consonants (/p, t, k, f, s, l, r/) produced in two different vowel contexts (/i/ and /a/) by six adult speakers of Scottish Standard English, in carrier sentences. Each target was produced five times. The total number of text files, which equals the number of consonant tokens, is 419 (7 consonants x 2 vowels x 5 repetitions x 6 speakers; one token of /f/ in the context of /a/ by the speaker S6 was not recorded for a technical reason). The names of the files are coded as follows: speaker (e.g., “S1†), consonant, vowel, and repetition number. This dataset was used in the following study to calculate typical adult values for two indices of tongue shape, Dorsum Excursion Index (DEI) and Tongue Constraint Position Index (TCPI): Zharkova, N. (2013). A normative-speaker validation study of two indices developed to quantify tongue dorsum activity from midsagittal tongue shapes. Clinical Linguistics & Phonetics, 27, 484-496. A script for R used to calculate the two indices, DEI and TCPI, is included. The reference for the indices is as follows: Zharkova, N. (2013).
