Abstract
This practice-based research project was created with the intention of understanding how a
podcast could work to effectively challenge the dominant narrative surrounding eating disorders
(EDs). The project looks to understand the significance of storytelling, narrative and the role of
the researcher in the project development. Through a practice-based methodology the research
takes a deeper look into stories of recovery from an ED, and how charities, such as Beat, the
UK’s leading eating disorder charity, can benefit from using podcasts to share stories of
recovery. This study has three significant stages, which involve: Research and design, concept
and creation, distribution and reflection through which a conclusion will be suggested based on
the process as a whole. Accompanying this reflective commentary is a portfolio of evidence,
which will be used as a reference point throughout. For the duration of the project eating
disorders will be referred to as EDs.
